Fernet is a liqueur that originated in Milan in the 18th and 19th centuries. It proved effective against a cholera epidemic. It has tonic and digestive functions. Its preparation is<br />based partly on infusions in water and alcohol of herbs such as rhubarb, aromatic calamus, liquorice root, gentian, cinchona, aloe and aniseed seeds. Hot decoctions of the<br />roots are then prepared without added sugar. It is usually used as a digestive aid, but it can be used in many other ways.<br />Our 'Fernet' liqueur falls into the category of bitters and is ideal to drink at the end of a meal as a digestive.
