The Merlot NUSSLEITEN vines thrive in the Seehof vineyard, facing south with a view of Lake Kaltern, while the mountains at their back provide protection from the north.<br />There, purple shimmering berries of excellent quality unfold their ruby red potential. Powerful spice on the nose with pepper, wild berries, redcurrant, notes of coffee and<br />cocoa, and a hint of pine needles. Multi-faceted, full-bodied mouthfeel with alpine freshness, a strong presence and incomparable elegance. Its long and complex finish<br />exudes great finesse.<br /><br />Manual harvesting and selection of the grapes from the historic Nussleiten vineyard. After destemming, the stainless steel tanks are filled by gravity, followed by mash<br />fermentation under controlled temperature. Malolactic fermentation and ageing exclusively in new barriques for 18 months. Lagrein, genetically related to Syrah, is the oldest autochthonous grape variety in South Tyrol. In the hot, deep vineyards in the south of South Tyrol, the heat-loving<br />Lagrein finds its suitable habitat.<br />The FRAUENHÜGEL has a seductive fruitiness of wild berries, elderberries, black cherries and cocoa beans. The wine is enriched with balsamic tannins during ageing in<br />barrique barrels. The noble roasted aromas and the vital acidity are harmoniously combined with the powerful fruit body. The clayey soil is responsible for its typical terroir<br />characteristics, which lend the fruity finish a piquant spiciness (liquorice) and its individual earthy note.<br />FRAUENHÜGEL: the powerful one.<br /><br />Grape variety: Lagrein<br />Vinification: Temperature-controlled fermentation in red wine tanks and ageing in French barriques for 12 months. Generous and enticing flavours ensue and<br />complement a beautiful balance between breadth and freshness. An enduring finish goes hand in hand with silky tannins<br />that elevate the wine's elegance.<br />THE 2023 GROWING SEASON<br />2023 was a challenging vintage in Bolgheri that, however, benefitted from Nature's benevolence during key<br />moments of the growing season. Winter was mild with relatively high temperatures and average rainfall that<br />resulted in early plant growth. Spring brought abundant rainfall that helped fill up water reserves for the summer,<br />but which also called for meticulous work in the vineyard. A hot summer saw high temperatures, albeit without<br />reaching any extremes, alongside rains that helped offset water stress in the vineyards. This enabled the grapes to<br />ripen gradually and regularly, allowing the berries to achieve high concentration.<br />Rainfall in late August and cool September nights helped aromatic complexity development and preserved the<br />acidity of the wine, resulting in a proper balance between power and elegance.<br />V INIFICATION AND AGEING<br />The different varietals were fermented separately in small steel tanks to maintain their characteristics. The alcoholic<br />fermentation was followed by malolactic fermentation, again in steel tanks. The wine was then aged for 10 months,<br />partly in barriques used previously for Ornellaia and partly in concrete tanks, to obtain the perfect balance between<br />tannic structure and the expression of fresh fruit.<br />

Description:<br />Aroma of fully ripe wild berries and dark chocolate. Very dense and complex with fine tannins. Elegant Merlot with very good ageing potential.<br />Ageing potential: 6 - 8 years.<br />Recommended food: Goes well with hearty roasted or grilled meats with root vegetables and spicy dark sauces, as well as game dishes and cheeses.<br />Serving temperature: 16° C.<br />Grape variety: Merlot. The grapes come from 20-year-old trellised vineyards with a planting density of approx. 5,000 vines/ha.<br />Sites: Sun-exposed slope. Extremely dry and heat-retaining quartz porphyry weathered soil that only allows low yields.<br />Vinification: Must fermentation at 28-30° C in stainless steel tanks. Gentle circulation of grape skins and juice is used to achieve optimal extraction of colour and extract<br />substances. Further ageing takes place entirely in small wooden barrels for about 12 months. After gentle filling and 12 months of bottle ageing, the wine is put on sale.<br />

Description: Deep and concentrated fruit, aromas of blackcurrant, cocoa, cinnamon and vanilla as well as velvety tannins make up this full-bodied yet elegant cuvée.<br />Ageing potential: 10 - 15 years.<br />Recommended food: Meat dishes of all kinds, especially red meat and game dishes as well as mature cheese.<br />Serving temperature: 16° C.<br />Grape variety: 80% Merlot - 20% Cabernet. Older trellised vines (15 - 20 years), planting density 5,000 vines/ha.<br />Sites: vineyards at 250-430 m a.s.l., moraine rubble deposits and porphyry weathered soils, south-west facing.<br />Vinification: Must fermentation followed by maceration for 7-10 days, malolactic fermentation in barriques. In spring, first racking with assemblage of the two varieties and<br />further ageing for 14 months in small oak barrels. Gentle coarse filtration and filling.
