CABERNET SAUVIGNON<br /><br />This variety needs no introduction and has also found much space in Friuli. The low yields and strong stripping favour a more 'southern' maturation. PIPA<br />PIPA is the exotic wine in our range. PIPA is a fortified wine - vino liquoroso, inspired by port wine. This first South Tyrolean 'port' is vinified from Lagrein grapes and is a<br />long-lasting and complex dessert wine produced along the lines of a vintage Ruby. The name 'PIPA' comes from the typical oak barrels in which the port wine is stored in<br />Portugal. 'After a trip to the Douro Valley in Portugal, I wanted to try my hand at making a port wine myself: I wanted to capture and preserve the typical cherry notes of the<br />Lagrein during fermentation. After several experiments, I was able to refine and perfect the process.' FranzGojer<br /><br />Site: Auer: Stony alluvial soil of the Etsch river. The warm porphyry is ideal for the grape variety. Guyot cultivation with 5,000 vines per hectare.<br /><br />Vinification: Hand harvest and gentle processing. Cold maceration and fermentation in open oak vats with light toasting. Intensive extraction by continuous immersion of the<br />marc cap in the must. Addition of brandy to the fermenting must to kill the yeasts and stop fermentation. Ageing in PIPA oak barrels for 6 months. Bottling and ageing in<br />bottle.<br /><br />Sensory characteristics: Intense garnet red with violet nuances. Smells wonderfully and intensely of fully ripe cherries and wild berries, Full-bodied and fine in the mouth. The<br />strong tannin and the juicy acidity act as an ideal counterpart to the sweetness and thus form a complex taste picture. The long, fruity finish flatters the palate. Suitable for<br />chocolate desserts of all kinds, the more intense and noble the chocolate, the better the combination.<br />

The head of character.<br />The perfect symbiosis of tradition and modernity.<br /><br />IN THE VINEYARD<br />The grapes of our classic Lagrein ripen in the vineyards in the sun-drenched basin of Bolzano at an altitude of 260 m, deeply rooted in sandy alluvial soils with a southern<br />exposure.<br />IN THE CELLAR After temperature-controlled fermentation in stainless steel at 28°C for 8 days, the wine is then matured in large wooden barrels of 30 - 50 hl.<br /><br />Colour: strong purple red<br />Aroma: invitingly open and complex with notes of violets, chocolate, ripe plums and spices<br />Taste: elegant with a velvety structure, densely woven tannins and light bitter almond tones.<br />Alcohol: 13.50 % vol.<br />Acidity: 4.80 g/l<br />Residual sugar: 2.40 g/l<br /><br />TASTING NOTES<br />This Lagrein has a strong purple colour. Alìe, a figure from Greek mythology, one of the sea nymphs, symbol of sensuality and beauty. Alìe, an elegant Rosé with a clear, pure colour and soft ruby reflections. A<br />refined balance between Syrah and Vermentino, which find their maximum expression in their proximity to the sea. Aromas of white flowers, wild strawberries and citrus peel<br />blend in a delicate structure with hints of minerality typical of the terroir, giving a long, rich finish. Enchanting from aperitifs to meals and in good company.<br /><br />Climatic trend<br />Winter 2021/2022 was characterised by good rainfall, as was spring 2022. This situation resulted in a proper water supply of the subsoil. Sprouting took place a few days<br />later than normal, but rising temperatures led to regular vegetative development. Summer days with above-average temperatures led to splendid ripening of the Syrah and<br />Vermentino grapes. As a result, the aromatic development was magnificent. The sun and the refreshing sea breezes were the perfect companions during the harvest period;<br />both allowed the vines to achieve a compositional balance that is an expression of this microclimate. The most genuinely Mediterranean expression of Tuscany.<br /><br />Technical notes<br />Varieties: Syrah, Vermentino<br />Alcoholic degree: 12%.<br />Maturation: 3 months in steel tanks<br /><br />Vinification and maturation<br />The secret of Alìe lies in the combination of territorial characteristics, vineyard management and, of course, the human factor. The grapes, once harvested, were transported<br />to the cellar in a short time in order not to spoil or damage the bunches. One of the highlights of the Alìe production was the pressing phase. The bunches, whole and in the<br />absence of oxygen, were loaded into the press. The pressures applied during this phase were extremely soft and gentle; this process, together with the careful selection of<br />the musts and their subsequent decanting for no less than 12 hours, allowed the distinctive characteristics of this seductive rosé to be enhanced. Fermentation took place in<br />stainless steel tanks at a controlled temperature of less than 19° C. After maturing for a few months on fine lees, subsequently including a period of bottle ageing, Alìe 2022<br />was as persuasive and fascinating as its custom.<br /><br /><br />Tasting notes<br />Alìe 2022 has a splendid soft pink colour. On the nose, its fruitiness is particularly varied: citrus notes of cedar and bergamot, ripe peach and white fruits. This is followed by<br />the floral soul of Alìe dominated by iris, orange blossom and peony. The long bouquet continues with clear hints of iodine and aromatic herbs such as thyme, rosemary and<br />sage. The taste-olfactory response is remarkable and precise, characterised by freshness and savouriness. Alìe is a rich, silky, smooth and satisfying wine.<br />

Nipozzano Riserva 2019<br />Chianti Rufina Riserva DOCG<br /><br />An emblematic wine from Castello Nipozzano, a historic Frescobaldi estate a few kilometres north-east of Florence, Nipozzano Riserva is the symbol of the Tuscan<br />winemaking tradition and the indissoluble bond with the terroir.<br /><br />Climatic trends<br />At Castello Nipozzano, winter 2019 was characterised by long periods of sunshine with low temperatures. Spring, on the other hand, was cool, and the rains that fell<br />ensured good water reserves to face the hot summer days. The summer period was characterised by temperature fluctuations that helped to provide coolness during the<br />night, with the usual breezes from the slopes of the Apennines contributing in particular. The grapes were therefore accompanied to ripening by a combination of the warmth<br />of the sun and refreshing breezes; the bunches arrived at the harvest in perfect condition and the production expressed itself in wines typical of the area, marked by a good<br />acidic vein and silky tannins.<br /><br />Technical notes<br />Variety: Sangiovese and complementary varieties<br />Alcoholic grade: 13.5%.<br /><br />Vinification and maturation<br />The grapes, as soon as they were harvested, were immediately delivered to the cellar. Here, once destemmed, the spontaneous fermentation process took place in<br />thermoregulated stainless steel tanks. At the end of this, the wine remained in the vats to complete maceration. Following racking, malolactic fermentation took place, also<br />conducted in stainless steel. At the end of the year, the wine was racked into barriques, where it matured for the following months. The further period in bottle allowed<br />Nipozzano 2019 to express itself to the full, making it a wine of exceptional expressive balance.<br /><br />Tasting notes<br />Nipozzano 2019 presents a lively ruby red colour. The nose is characterised by fruity scents such as wild berries, black cherry and elegant floral notes; wonderful freshness<br />expressed through balsamic hints. This is followed by roasted and spicy notes of pepper, nutmeg and coffee. The palate is rich, characterised by the elegant density of the<br />fruit and the final mineral freshness that make it balanced and persistent. The tannic texture is dense but not scratchy. The taste-olfactory correspondence is splendid.<br />

Cabernet 'Istrice' 2020<br />South Tyrol DOC<br /><br />Cabernet 'Istrice' was Elena Walch's first red wine. At that time consisting of a predominant proportion of Cabernet Franc and only a little Cabernet Sauvignon, the wine<br />showed 'its spines', just like the little hedgehogs in the park of the family winery. Today, the percentage of 'Istrice' has exactly reversed with 90% Cabernet Sauvignon and<br />about 10% Cabernet Franc. Although it shows less of its spines, it has gained in elegance and finesse and continues to be one of the favourites at Walch.<br /><br />'The Cabernet 'Istrice' captivates with a strong intense ruby red and with stimulating fruity aromas in the nose, with red forest berries and heart cherries as well as seductive<br />spice with white pepper and chocolate. On the palate, the wine surprises with refreshing richness and structure, with elegant, precise tannins and fruity-spicy density, as<br />well as a long, juicy finish.'<br /><br />LESE 2020<br />Spring 2020, with its beautiful weather and warm temperatures, spring flowers in the garden and thick blanket of fresh snow on the mountains, led to the relatively early<br />development of the vines, which settled down again with the cooler temperatures in June. After a warm midsummer, the harvest started in the first days of September. The<br />autumn was characterised by warm days and cool nights, but also by some freak weather, whereby the careful cultivation of the vineyards in early summer was noticeable.<br />The 2020 vintage resulted in wines of great South Tyrolean typicity: The young white wines stand out with fresh liveliness and clear aromatic expression, the red wines show<br />very good structure and straight, fine fruit.<br /><br />VINIFICATION<br />Traditional maceration of about 10 days in steel tanks. Followed by malolactic fermentation in wooden barrels. Subsequent malolactic fermentation and ageing in medium French oak barrels<br />(22hl) and partly in steel tanks.<br /><br />DEGUSTATION: The Pinot Noir Elena Walch presents itself with a clear, fresh ruby red. A fruity play of aromas with red berries, cherries and raspberries as well as spicy<br />notes with some white pepper characterise the nose. On the palate, the wine convinces with a juicy structure and inviting freshness, with soft, velvety tannins, discreet spice<br />in the background as well as a youthfully elegant finish.<br /><br />TERROIR: An interesting combination of vineyards in fresher sites between 400m a.s.l. up to 600m a.s.l.. Limestone and porphyry soils in south-eastern and south-western<br />exposure. Harvested and selected by hand with the utmost care.<br /><br />LESE 2022: An excellent vintage 2022 awaits you! Thanks to the warm, stable summer, grapes of the very best health and with balanced values have reached our cellar.<br />The 2022 wine year started with a warm spring, which led to an early start of flowering. The following summer was consistently dry and warm, and hot in mid-summer. The<br />drought did not lead to any problems, not least thanks to our irrigation systems and meteostations in the vineyard. The warm summer months resulted in very healthy<br />grapes of very good quality and ripeness. The acidity levels were somewhat lower due to the vintage, but well balanced and were supported by targeted foliage work in the<br />summer, as well as a somewhat earlier harvest. The first grapes were harvested at the end of August - as always completely by hand. Lagrein, genetically related to Syrah, is the oldest autochthonous grape variety in South Tyrol. In the hot, deep vineyards in the south of South Tyrol, the heat-loving Lagrein<br />finds its suitable habitat.<br />The FRAUENHÜGEL has a seductive fruitiness of wild berries, elderberries, black cherries and cocoa beans. The wine is enriched with balsamic tannins during ageing in<br />barrique barrels. The noble roasted aromas and the vital acidity are harmoniously combined with the powerful fruit body.
