Taber<br />Lagrein<br />Riserva<br /><br />South Tyrol - Alto Adige DOC<br /><br />Lagrein, one of the most typical red wine varieties of South Tyrol and of the Cantina Bolzano, thrives in the valley floor around Bolzano with high temperature differences<br />between day and night. The very old vines produce a wine of above-average quality, with concentrated but velvety tannins, juicy fruit and a robust body.<br />Grape varieties: Lagrein<br />Growing area/climate: vines more than 80 years old on warm, sandy alluvial soils in Gries near Bolzano, 250 metres above sea level.<br />Harvest: end of September to mid-October<br />Vinification: After traditional red wine fermentation in wooden barrels, the young wine matures for about one year in French barriques.<br />Characteristics: Colour: impenetrable garnet red.<br />Aroma: fruity of ripe cherries, floral of roses and violets, reminiscent of humus, beautiful chocolate tones<br />Flavour: powerful and harmonious with a velvety fullness, long-lasting and elegant<br />Goes well with: grilled or cooked dark meat, game dishes and ripe cheese<br />Alcohol: 14 % vol*<br />Residual sugar : 4,0 g/l*<br />* Depending on the vintage, the analytical values may vary slightly.<br />

The winter of 2017 ended a five-year drought with January recording the most rainfall in over 20 years. The abundant rainfall continued into March, causing a modest delay in<br />budbreak, and pushing bloom back by two weeks. Increased soil moisture allowed for healthy vine growth and development. The summer, in turn, was warm and punctuated<br />by occasional heat waves. Despite Mother Nature's variability, favorable weather in August provided optimal conditions for fruit development and maturation. Superb flavors<br />and excellent ripening led to an earlier than expected harvest, which commenced on the 5th of September.<br /><br />The Opus One 2017 offers a harmonious aromatic balance of rich dark fruit, stems of roses, and earthy forest floor. The juicy entry offers a round, silky mouthfeel with just<br />enough acidity to complement the satin texture. This seductive wine shows flavors of black cassis, black cherry and a hint of cocoa powder. The fine-grained, plush tannins<br />evolve into a long, supple finish. Vinification<br /><br />The grapes are harvested in September and left to dry for 4 months in a well-ventilated room. In December, the dried grapes are selected again. Drying results in a 2/3<br />weight loss, as well as a concentration of sugar, aromas, acidity and tannins. Due to the high sugar content, the yeast cannot carry out the fermentation completely and<br />thus a natural residual sweetness remains. After a fermentation of 6 weeks, a longer bottle fermentation takes place.<br />Tasting<br /><br />The 'Cashmere' Gewürztraminer Passito presents itself with a golden yellow colour with a light amber hue. Its bouquet is exquisite and intensely aromatic: dried apricots,<br />candied fruits, rose petals, a hint of orange and caramel. On the palate, the Passito is very concentrated, with a harmonious interplay between inviting sweetness and<br />refreshing acidity, elegant and of exquisite level.<br />
