It was characterised by a three-cycle weather pattern, with sharp contrasts. After a splendid spring, dry and culminating in a torrid June, a cool and rainy summer followed;<br />September was hot, sunny and very dry. The 'key to the grape harvest' lies in the soils and the work of the winegrowers: chalk is a winner because it is more draining, and in<br />the hills it allowed excess summer water to be disposed of and the vigour to be contained. At Castellare, Chianti Classico is produced using only two indigenous grape varieties: Sangioveto, the prince of Tuscan vines, which makes up 90% of the blend, and the<br />remaining 10% of Canaiolo, another typical variety of the area. The true Chianti Classico, therefore, without the addition of international vines such as Cabernet or Merlot, in<br />order to maintain the authentic formula of the most famous of Italian wines while seeking maximum elegance.<br /><br />Tasting notes: the colour of this Chianti Classico is the ruby red of Sangioveto. The nose is fragrant, fresh with pleasant hints of red fruit, liquorice, currants and a light touch<br />of vanilla. The typical notes of Chianti Sangiovese dominate. On the palate it expresses a pleasant sweetness, is round, soft and savoury. SOUTH TIROL DOC<br />LAGREIN RISERVA<br />VINEYARD KLOSTERANGER<br /><br />Our historic single vineyard: expressive, concentrated and straightforward.<br />IN THE VINEYARD<br />This Lagrein thrives at an altitude of 280 m in the middle of Gries. The historic vineyard is part of the monastery complex, where the vines stand on pure alluvial material from<br />the Talfer and a subsoil of Bolzano quartz porphyry. IN THE CELLAR<br />After fermentation and acid reduction in stainless steel, the wine is aged in new barrique barrels for 22 months, followed by harmonisation in enamelled steel tanks and<br />careful bottling after light filtration.<br />TASTING NOTES<br />The Klosteranger appears in deep garnet red and seduces with a bouquet of concentrated aromas. It is surprisingly lively and fruity on the nose with notes of coffee and<br />black berries as well as a hint of raspberries. On the palate, it convinces with grippy tannins, fresh acidity, delicate as well as elegant fullness and depth. Our single-vineyard<br />Lagrein is wonderfully complex, long-lasting and pampers the palate with a multi-layered structure.
